Artist’s practice – areas of interest

In the last ten years the practice has been to make large banks of drawings as visual diaries around themes of human existence.

Stripped of the accoutrements of modern day life, figures struggle to make sense of what it is to be alive in the 21st Century.

There is always a spirit of separateness, the loneliness and vulnerability of the human soul, and the deep void between individuals, despite physical nearness or the love for one another.

Automatic writing begins the process before any drawing starts. This is a way in to empty the mind, so that the drawing speaks only from the protagonist’s perspective.
